Florida Keys #TakeMeBackThursday

Hey travel enthusiasts.. welcome back to my blog!

Now, although it’s Spring already.. we still have a lot of snow in Vermont and I am kinda over the winter. I just want the cold to now go away..and bring in all the warmth!!

But anyway.. since it’s not warm yet.. I will be reminiscing one of my amazing trips to the warm Sunshine State of FLORIDA!!

So, last year i.e. 2017 I visited Florida for my birthday! I basically just wanted to go somewhere warm and just soak in the sun after being 6 months in cold. So, this trip was 5 days long.. but today I am going to talk about one of the best places I visited in Florida.. the KEYS!

Well, for those who don’t know what the Keys are… these are basically a set of islands called Keys off the coast of Florida and are connected by miles of highway. They are just beautiful and bright and a must visit if you’re going to Miami.

So, we decided to visit the Keys on the 3rd day of our trip. We had rented a car and wanted to drive on the highway built in the middle of the ocean.. you really have to see it to believe it.

BTW.. I have a video showcasing my entire trip to Florida.. so check it out if you like! ❀️

Key West is actually the furthermost key and Southernmost point of US.. but that was like a 4 hour drive from Miami.. so we decided to travel halfway through the keys and visit Sombrero beach which is on the key called Marathon.

7 mile bridge

We started at around 11 am after breakfast and basically just wanted to hit the road.. enjoy the drive and relax on the beach. It was a beautiful day, with lots of sunshine and ocassional overcast..basically just amazing weather. Also, we had rented a convertible car and OMG.. that drive was sooo good. The wind hitting you and the sun shining above..ah.. it was the best!

We took a couple of stops on the way.. to just grab something to eat. Now, there’s a very popular 7 mile bridge between Marathon and Bahia Honda Key, and the drive on it is really beautiful! Imagine just a 2 lane 7 mile long bridge in the middle of the ocean.. how serene and beautiful! So even though our final destination for the afternoon was Sombrero beach.. we decided to take the drive a little further across the 7-mile bridge and then get back to the beach.

An iguana just chilling in the park

Most of the tourists travel right up to Key West and that’s why Sombrero beach did not have as many people around and that’s what made it so serene and calm. There was a little park like area before the beach which had restrooms and outdoor showers. There was also some wildlife out in the park like iguanas..and turtles/tortoises.

Next, we hit the beach..the water was nice and warm and we stayed there until sun down and it got amazing and beautiful and so colorful. I have never seen a sunset as pretty as that one. The sky had so many gorgeous shades of blue, pink, orange and purple.. it was breath-taking!

As it got darker… I wanted to head out of the park..big lizards..no thank you! So we decided to grab some seafood dinner at a restaurant called Angler & Ale at Duck Key. We had Tuna Nachos and crab cakes.. and they were both delicious! After dinner, we headed back to our hotel in Miami beach and called it a night as we had something much more exciting to do the next day… but more on that some other time! πŸ™‚

Until Next Time,

Stay Gorgeous & Keep Inspiring!

Daily Dose of Happiness…

  1. Last night’s dinner.. made me sooo happy! It was a simple salad.. and I did not really put much effort into making it like I usually do (because I was starving and tired).. but it turned out really tasty!! Check out my other salad recipes if you like! πŸ™‚
  2. I had a whole hour to myself last night.. just lying in bed, doing absolutely nothing and binge watching Youtube videos.. haven’t done that in a while. I will usually have Youtube on on the TV and I’ll be doing something on the laptop.. but last night.. it was just Youtube and me..it felt greatt!!Β πŸ˜€

  1. One of my favorite trips in the US was the one I took to the keys. I took a flight from a very cold NYC after months of snow and landed in what felt like heaven – sun and blue water and views to die for. Glad you got to experience it too. and I love evenings in which I can just lay down with some good TV without doing 10 other things at the same time.
